Lenovo (HKSE: 992) (ADR: LNVGY) and Microsoft today at Lenovo Tech World announced a collaboration to transform the way people find their content in a new, more personal way with Cortana and REACHit. Lenovo announced and demonstrated these technologies to thousands of fans, media, partners and suppliers during the keynote address at Tech World. Lenovo REACHit extends the search capabilities of Cortana for Windows 10 devices with REACHit’s ability to search for content across any connected Lenovo PC or tablet device running Windows 10 and many major cloud services. This deep, exclusive platform integration gives Cortana a much larger inventory of information to search, opening up an entirely new level of contextual search and giving users the most comprehensive, seamless and natural way to find their personal digital content
Cortana is the personal digital assistant available across Windows 10 PCs, tablets and phones that allows users to talk or type naturally to get things done. Cortana and REACHit extends the sources from which content can be found. Using a unique user-assigned Lenovo ID, Cortana and REACHit together access data about the content to retrieve a wide variety of a user’s personal content – whether its photos, video, files or emails. Lenovo REACHit reaches across the user’s personal cloud services and their connected Lenovo Windows 10 PCs and tablets to find the content.
For example, a user wants to find a photo hat she edited on her Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon laptop last week. Now she can access it while she’s away from her laptop at the coffee shop by using her Lenovo ThinkPad 10 tablet. She no longer needs to go home and work on the laptop. And by using Cortana and REACHit, she doesn’t even have to remember the name of the photo file – just the location where she edited it, or the date or another piece of relevant information. For example, she could search by saying: “Cortana, find the picture I edited last week on my ThinkPad X1 Carbon.” Or “Cortana, find the picture I worked on at Starbucks last week.”
Cortana and REACHit search her personal cloud accounts including services beyond Microsoft and Windows like Google Drive, DropBox and Box. Without REACHit, users can only look for files on their device they are currently using and OneDrive. REACHit makes Cortana even smarter.
Kaspersky Lab has recently discovered a new business-oriented cyber-spying campaign called Grabit that was able to steal about 10,000 files from small/medium-sized organizations based mostly in India, Thailand and the US. The list of target sectors includes chemicals, nanotechnology, education, agriculture, media, construction and more. Companies based in India and Thailand had the largest percentage of infected machines. By looking at the stolen credentials, it is very clear that employees sent the malware to one another, as stolen host names and internal applications are the same.
Other countries affected are the UAE, Germany, Israel, Canada, France, Austria, Sri Lanka, Chile and Belgium.
Kaspersky Lab documentation points out that the campaign started somewhere in late February 2015 and ended in mid-March. As the development phase supposedly ended, malware started spreading from India, the United States and Israel to other countries around the globe.
“We see a lot of spying campaigns focused on enterprises, government organizations and other high-profile entities, with small and medium-sized businesses rarely seen in the lists of targets. But Grabit shows that it’s not just a “big fish” game – in the cyber world every single organization, whether it possesses money, information or political influence, could be of potential interest to one or other malicious actor. Grabit is still active, and it’s critically important to check your network to ensure you’re safe. On May 15th a simple Grabit keylogger was found to be maintaining thousands of victim account credentials from hundreds of infected systems. This threat shouldn’t be underestimated,” – says Ido Naor, Senior Security Researcher, Global Research & Analysis Team.
Infection starts when a user in a business organization receives an email with an attachment that appears to be a Microsoft Office Word (.doc) file. The user clicks to download it and the spying program is delivered to the machine from a remote server that has been hacked by the group to serve as a malware hub. The attackers control their victims using HawkEye keylogger, a commercial spying tool from HawkEyeProducts, and a configuration module containing a number of Remote Administration Tools (RATs).
To illustrate the scale of operation, Kaspersky Lab can reveal that a keylogger in just one of the command-and-control servers was able to steal 2887 Passwords, 1053 Emails and 3023 Usernames from 4928 different hosts, internally and externally, including Outlook, Facebook, Skype, Google mail, Pinterest, Yahoo, LinkedIn and Twitter, as well as bank accounts and others.
An Erratic Group of Cybercriminals
On the one hand, the Grabit threat actor does not go the extra mile to hide its activity: some malicious samples used the same hosting server, and even the same credentials, undermining its own security. On the other hand, the attackers use strong mitigation techniques to keep their code hidden from analysts’ eyes. This leads Kaspersky Lab to believe that behind the sniffing operation is an erratic group, with some members more technical and focused on being untraceable than others. Expert analysis suggests that whoever programmed the malware did not write all the code from scratch.
To protect against Grabit, Kaspersky Lab recommends following these rules:
• Сheck this location C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft, if it contains executable files, you might be infected with the malware. This is a warning you should not ignore.
• The Windows System Configurations should not contain a grabit1.exe in the startup table. Run “msconfig” and ensure that it is clean from grabit1.exe records.
• Don’t open attachments and links from people you don’t know. If you can’t open it, don’t forward it to others – call for the support of an IT-administrator.
• Use an advanced, up to date anti-malware solution, and always follow the AV task list for suspicious processes.
Kaspersky Lab products detect all known Grabit samples and protect its users against the threat.

Many small-business owners believe BYOD (bring-your-own-device) poses no threat to their company and have no interest in spending effort on mobile device security, while employees themselves think security is the responsibility of the business, a study by Kaspersky Lab has found.
A total of 6,219 respondents from 21 countries (Including India with 299 Respondents) took part in this year’s B2B Brand Tracking 2014. Respondents represented companies employing 1-1500+ people. All respondents were categorized according to the size of their business: Very Small Business (VSB, 1-50 employees), Small and Medium-sized Business (SMB, 50-1500 employees) or Enterprise (1500+ employees). The survey was conducted from October to November 2014.
All participants answered questions concerning the main obstacles they faced when building and maintaining a reliable IT infrastructure. Respondents also answered questions about the resources they use to learn about data protection and how they choose their IT solutions.
With the study showing that two-thirds (62%) of business owners and employees now use personal mobile devices for work, BYOD is no longer a developing trend, but a widely accepted business practice. It affects companies of all sizes, from the very large (5000+ employees) to the small (fewer than 25 employees).
In India, many users of free products have upgraded to a paid-for home solution due to their desire for increased security. However, they were unwilling to pay for a more expensive and complicated business solution. This change is partly the result of a new trend in flexible business operations: offices have become remote and people are increasingly working with their own devices. There may therefore be no reason for a business to buy a complex and expensive solution if employees already have solutions at home. The employer simply needs to permit them to work at home and use home computers.
However, attitudes towards protecting the information security of these devices often leave much to be desired. The consumer security risks survey found that 92% of respondents say that they keep sensitive corporative data on smartphones and tablets which they use for both work and personal activities. Six in ten (60%) are concerned about the threat of surveillance and information theft via mobile devices, but they do not actively protect themselves and rely on their employers to do so.
As for employers and small-business owners, a third (32%) sees absolutely no danger to their business in staff using personal mobile devices for work. The risk of data theft from an employee’s mobile device is not a pressing concern for them, so they do not pay much attention to it. However, representatives of larger businesses are more concerned about employees losing their mobile devices: 58% fear that the theft or loss of a device could damage the company.
Representatives of smaller businesses, who tend to be less interested in specific protection for mobile devices, believe that the basic security tools offered within free solutions should be sufficient. They don’t see any added value in spending extra money on dedicated solutions. More than 80% of respondents were not interested in information about managing the information security of mobile devices.
This kind of attitude – on the part of both device owners and their bosses – opens up a serious vulnerability for a corporate network. This weakness can potentially be exploited by cybercriminals as well as by unscrupulous competitors. There is always a chance of suffering financial losses (e.g. from a loss of client base), even if the general feeling is that a lost mobile device cannot cause any damage to the company. Moreover, according to Kaspersky Lab statistics [add reference] one in five Android users encountered a mobile threat in 2014; and 53% of such attacks were bank and SMS Trojans. Protection of the mobile environment is becoming a critical component of security. Kaspersky Small Office Security provides comprehensive protection for small businesses, including security for mobile devices.
