Deal Registration System 2.0

Lenovo, the world’s largest PC maker and an emerging PC Plus leader, announced the introduction of Deal Registration System (DRS) – DRS 2.0, an easy-to-use platform that builds a direct online connection between Lenovo and its commercial business partners. This initiative aims to equip the partner with updated information, provide exclusivity and reduce the turn-around time from client identification to closure of business.

DSR 2.0 is a free platform and can be accessed on any web browser and mobile handsets. The platform builds on the first version of the platform DSR 1.0 that was launched last year and adds several features that not only increase functionality, speed and transparency but also provide a lag-free engagement. Once registered on to the platform, a partner can avail a plethora of benefits from best deals on a prospective client, streamline the process by exclusively locking in the client with Lenovo and have free access to CRM solutions.

Commenting on the launch, Nitin Garg, Channel Head, Commercial Business Segment, Lenovo India said, “We at Lenovo are strongly committed to our partners and strive towards strengthening our relationship with them. DRS 2.0 is yet another endeavour from Lenovo to ensure its partners receive the best possible opportunity. With this launch, we not only make our engagement with our partners seamless but also empower them and provide them with a tangible edge in their business.”

DSR 2.0 provides three distinct benefits to partners once they register onto the platform.
1. Best deals: Once a participating partner registers the details of the prospective deal, they have access to best rates and deals for the opportunity, thus increasing their probability to win with Lenovo.
2. Clarity of business: A registered partner gets to lock-in a prospective client on the platform for a period of 90 days, provided the same client is not already locked-in. During this period, Lenovo will offer all the necessary support related to the client only to that registered partner.
3. CRM Support: A key addition is the free access to the CRM solution within DRS 2.0, helping partners maintain records, review transactions and access detailed chronological data.

For Lenovo, channel partners form a crucial component to business growth. To help build, strengthen and sustain their relationship with this community, Lenovo has designed this platform. Through DRS 2.0 Lenovo will be able to expand its partner ecosystem and grow its business.

The volume of cyber attacks are expected to decline in 2015, but will become more sophisticated with such intrusions targeting specific sectors like healthcare, says the cyber security solutions firm Websense.
According to Websense’s cybersecurity predictions for 2015, as mobile apps are using auto-login capability these devices will face more attacks from cyber criminals for more credential-stealing or authentication attacks that can be used at a later date.

“The nature of cyber attacks is changing with criminals going for personally identifiable information (PII), which can be used at a later date. Such attacks are expected to escalate as we go ahead,” Websense Manager Sales Ajay Dubey told .PII is an information that can be used to uniquely identify, contact or locate a single person.Cybercriminals are using PII to get answers to security questions that are used to verify a user’s identity. Also they keep this information with them and use it at a later date or also try to use the victim’s profile to get personal information of their contacts, family or friends, he added.

The report states that healthcare sector will see a rise in data stealing attack campaigns as the records hold a treasure trove of PII that can be used in a multitude of attacks and various types of fraud.”In an environment still transitioning millions of patient records from paper to digital form, many organisations are playing catch-up when it comes to the security challenge of protecting personal data. As a result, cyber-attacks against this industry will increase.” it added.

The report further said with auto-login capability of mobile apps, mobile devices will increasingly be targeted for broader credential-stealing or authentication attacks to be used at a later date.

Scientists have created an artificial intelligence software that uses photos to locate documents on the Internet with far greater accuracy than ever before. The new system, which was tested on photos and is now being applied to videos, shows for the first time that a machine learning algorithm for image recognition and retrieval is accurate and efficient enough to improve large-scale document searches online. The system developed by researchers at Dartmouth College, Tecnalia Research and Innovation and Microsoft Research Cambridge, uses pixel data in images and potentially video – rather than just text – to locate documents.

It learns to recognise the pixels associated with a search phrase by studying the results from text-based image search engines. The knowledge gleaned from those results can then be applied to other photos without tags or captions, making for more accurate document search results.

“Images abound on the Internet and our approach means they’ll no longer be ignored during document retrieval,” said Associate Professor Lorenzo Torresani, co-author of the study.”Over the last 30 years, the Web has evolved from a small collection of mostly text documents to a modern, gigantic, fast-growing multimedia dataset, where nearly every page includes multiple pictures or videos. When a person looks at a Web page, she immediately gets the gist of it by looking at the pictures in it,” said Torresani.

Kaspersky Lab and Mensa are inviting Internet users to take part in a very special challenge over the summer with the help of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and Formula One’s most successful racing team Scuderia Ferrari.

The Global Think Test is made up of a series of online brain games, quizzes and puzzles, specially created to let participants hone their combination and calculation skills.

As the online world is increasingly populated with threats, common sense plays an extremely important role. Users need to be able to identify a potentially dangerous situation quickly – and often that means acting contrary to our normal instincts. As social beings, we are led by basic principles such as trust, authority, helpfulness, curiosity and reciprocation, all of which can be abused by cybercriminals. Therefore, we need to train our brains to make the right decisions fast, and Kaspersky Lab has designed the Global Think Test to see if users have what it takes.

“Being alert and focused can help you win computer games, but can also help you keep cybercriminals at bay. We can avoid so many threats by simply being alert,” says Eugene Kaspersky, Chairman and CEO Kaspersky Lab. “If something is too good to be true, it most probably is. And in most cases there are tell-tale signs that a website is fake. If you’re not distracted by other things and are trained to stay focused, you should be able to spot them.”

The Global Think Test website is packed with all sorts of brain-training games, puzzles and IQ tests to help participants flex their mental muscles. And it also gives everyone the chance to register for our big competition – Global Think Test Day – and win the grand prize.

September 6, 2014 is Global Think Test Day, when a worldwide online challenge invites all participants to put their brainpower to the ultimate test and go head-to-head with some of the best brains in the world. The winner of this challenge, the person who gets the highest score in the shortest time, will become the Kaspersky Global Think Test Champion and win the grand prize of US $25,000 in cash. The name of the winner will be announced on September 7, 2014.

The unique content for Global Think Test has been created by world recognized brands.

Mensa, the oldest high IQ society in the world, brought intelligence to the platform. Dozens of challenges, brain-teasers and IQ questions were created with the support and accreditation of Mensa and will help to test the participants’ cognitive skills.

“The Global Think Test is an innovative way to engage with people who are passionate about solving challenges and think in unconventional ways. Mensa is extremely happy to be involved with this project and hope that many of the participants will discover their potential and consider joining the Society, wherever they are in the world,” commented Michael Feenan, Executive Director at Mensa International.

Ferrari, which last year chose Kaspersky Lab as IT security provider, prepared specially designed Ferrari Formula One related content in the form of games, puzzles and video tests so participants can stick with their favorite motorsports team even while honing their thinking skills. Ferrari also offers some fantastic prizes, including a pair of racing gloves signed by Fernando Alonso and Kimmi Räikkönen and an all-expenses-paid trip to the Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix.

Much like the unrelenting competition in Formula One, being safe online is an ever changing landscape as the threats become ever more complex. As the percentage of time we spend online continues to increase, we need to be even more alert to the potential threats that this environment lends itself. New skills are needed for this environment in which base human instincts are exploited for criminal gain. Kaspersky’s Global Think Test combined with its Ferrari Formula One content is an engaging way in which the online community can challenge themselves whilst learning to protect themselves, so when it comes to online security, you can be in Pole Position for Protection!” commented Neil Martin, Head of Operations Research Department at Scuderia Ferrari.

Sachin Tendulkar, Kaspersky Lab Brand Ambassador, also supports the Global Think Test and presents his own tasks and video questions. The winner of Sachin’s personal Sudoku challenge – ‘Tendulko’ – have the chance to win a signed bat from “The God of Cricket” by earning enough points to top the leader boards.

Everyone who takes part is guaranteed at least one prize – a trial version of the new Kaspersky Internet Security – Multi-Device security solution. It’s an easy-to-use, one-license, multi-platform solution that protects virtually any combination of PCs, Macs, Android smartphones and Android tablets.

All Global Think Test content is in English, but the competition is open to participants all over the world.

You can find more information about the Global Think Test on TwitterFacebookYouTube and share your best moments with the hashtag #GTT.

mobile communication networks

Advanced Mobile Networks To Provide More Capacity: Researchers at University of South California and Samsung developed a prototype that shows how small cell or other wireless devices can collect and store energy. The model will also take into account how much power each cell holds when active. This would require less no of cells to handle the capacity.

This model was prepared as to avoid the usage of electricity problem by mobile communication networks. Mobile communications require more fuel and electricity in order to function without fail, in some place there are huge fuel tanks connect to the towers.  The new invention will use small transmitters which are called as small cells; they will provide the backup of these networks. The concept of these small cells is they can be attached to windmills, solar panels or batteries.

IEEE transactions on wireless communications have accepted to publish the model which is lead by USC postdoc Harpreet Dhillon. Jeff Reed the director of wireless research center at Virginia tech said, the model still had theoretical base and need to prove it practically. One of the complications this model is facing to implement in emerging countries is to find a steady power source.

For years, Facebook has been cutting deals with telecom carriers in developing countries like India and the Philippines to offer free Facebook access to cellphone customers using simple phones with no data plans. Now, for the first time, Americans will be able to get free Facebook, too, even if they don’t have a mobile data plan.

In January, GoSmart Mobile, a little-known low-cost prepaid service from T-Mobile US, will begin bundling free access to Facebook’s social network  and instant-messaging service with all of its mobile plans, including a basic $25-a-month unlimited voice plan. The service is primarily aimed at smartphones that run Apple’s iOS or Google’s Android software, but it will also work on the cheaper, more basic devices known as feature phones.

For GoSmart, which is sold primarily through independent shops in urban areas, free Facebook is a way to differentiate itself from other prepaid cellular brands – including the more upscale offerings that T-Mobile sells under its own brand and through its MetroPCS unit.”This is something that no one else is offering in the United States,” Gavin Dillon, T-Mobile’s vice president of partner brands, said in an interview Tuesday.

“It’s really about providing more value for GoSmart’s cost .conscious customers.”As in other markets, the free taste of Facebook, including access to videos and other multimedia content embedded in the service, could also persuade some GoSmart customers to upgrade to plans that include data. For Facebook, which has 1.2 billion users worldwide, the benefits are less clear.

Internet users may face more privacy threats

Someone is quietly profiling your every move online: snooping around what you tweet or scribble on FB or even scanning your emails to friends and family. If that sounds suspiciously close to stalking, marketers have a more polite name for the practice: mapping.

While not a new phenomenon in India, it has become more critical given the growing importance of social media marketing and increasing numbers of internet users. Chances are it could intensify in 2014. Marketers, who were earlier scratching the surface of social media marketing, are now peeling back the layers for a more nuanced understanding of people and their behaviour on the internet. Some of the leading players in the space in India include Google, Yahoo, Vizury, Ozone Media, and Tyroo.

“Mapping happens on two levels. One, when the surfer browses through various websites without logging in. In that case one monitors the time spent, type of content consumed, frequency of visit and so on. A pattern can be drawn through that,” says Atul Hegde, Chief Executive Officer, Ignitee Digital Services.

In the case of blogs or email, the identification cues are more specific: by location, gender and age. But in a bid to map online consumers are marketers crossing the line between mapping and stalking? Most tools and applications used to collect such data are privacy-invasive software and some of the most prominent ones are adware which can potentially host content hijacking programmes.
